HNB Visa® Debit & ATM Card Use

Now Appearing in a Wallet near you…Chip Cards!Chip CARD

HNB Visa® debit cards now include an embedded chip and provides enhanced security when used at chip-enabled card readers.  Along with the new card design, your debit card number, expiration date, and 3-digit code (CVV) on the back of your card have also been changed for added protection.  If a merchant is not equipped with a chip-enabled card reader, the magnetic stripe may still be used.  There is no annual fee and you continue to be protected by HNB’s Fraud Monitoring Program.  Want to be one of the first to receive a chip-enabled card?  Please call us at 570-253-3362 x 1400 or visit your local HNB branch.

WHY?

Chip technology has been successful in fraud reduction around the world and is becoming the standard in the United States for card payments.  When used at a chip-enabled terminal, the embedded chip protects your information by creating a unique one-time code for each transaction.  This helps prevent stolen data from being used fraudulently.  At HNB, we strive to utilize the latest technology to protect your personal information.

Know Your PIN!

Many times when paying by debit card at large retailers (such as supermarkets, pharmacies, discount stores, etc.) or in designated regions, you may be required to use your PIN – Personal Identification Number.  Using your PIN rather than signing helps to securely process the transaction and may allow you to receive cash back – saving a trip to the ATM.  MEMORIZE YOUR PIN, KEEP IT SAFE, AND DO NOT SHARE IT.  If you’d like, you can change your PIN at most HNB ATMs.  Need a higher debit card limit or travelling out of the area?  Visit any HNB office or contact HNB Deposit Operations at 570-253-3362, x 1400.
